enna vambula maati vidureengale.

FD is not that bad a investment.
Investment theory says that asset allocation (split between debt, equity, mutual funds, property, FD etc) should be based on the risk profile.

If you are young (20, 30's) you tend to have a higher risk appetite and hence u can buy more of risky investments like equities. However if you are slightly older, your priorities are different and hence it is better to limit equity investments.

Liquidity is also an important consideration in investment. Although property (mainly land) is a good investment, it is not as liquid as equity, FD. given the worldwide trend, FD's don't pay much at all.

You had mentioned that one should do his/her own research. In an ideal situation, this is quite good....however people may not have the time / inclination to do so. Hence they tend to rely on friends, colleagues, investment professionals, financial advisors and business magazines. If one has free time he might prefer to spend with near and dear rather than spending this time on sifting thru research reports, financial analysis etc.

sorry for occupying air time here.
