Kushboo episode

“Khushboo has tarnished the image of Tamil women, making them hang their heads in shame,”

An effigy of the actress was burnt in Salem with many groups demanding that she should leave the state.
Too much ba. ok lets see whatever she’s told regarding this which some specimens find so insulting.

She told the magazine that pre-marital sex is okay “provided safety measures are followed to prevent pregnancy and sexually-transmitted diseases.”

She also said, “No educated man today would expect his wife to be a virgin.”

Given the permissive times we are in, whatever she told was just sensible advice one would have thought. But look at the response!

I for some reason believe that this “karpu” business is more of a puritanical british value than an intrinsic Indian value. If all the guys and girls in Tamil Nadu are in fact karpukarasars and karpukarasigal, how come we have so many HIV /AIDS and STD patients?

“By September 2003 Tamil Nadu had reported 24,667 cases of AIDS, the highest number reported to NACO by any state”.

Source: http://www.avert.org/aidsindia.htm.

Even if one does not subscribe to her theory, why the hell should she leave Tamil Nadu. She is as much a tamilian as the millions of tamil-speaking people who live in other states. This is nothing but third rate parochialism.

Absolutely nothing wrong in what Khusboo said. Stupid politicians and the un-educated masses.

Is there something called ‘Freedom of Speech’ in our constitution.? Can’t a person talk what he/she wants and that too..no nonsense..like the politicians do.!

I fully subscribe to what Khusboo says. If people living in TN think ( All those people who are outraged by her remarks) that it is wrong…they have to go to psychiatrists.!

God bless our country. I am glad we have people like Khusboo around.

  5. Ganesh Says:

while I would like to disagree with her thoughts,I strongly support her freedom of expression.
This is difference between USA and India.
In USA, first amendment protects you, in India it may be there in paper, but if you tend to speak your mind out,
you will have tremendrous traffic of Autos,Sumos visitng your house :)
Its interesting becoz youth is going in the opposite direction of where these politicians want them to go?
so may be we do have a hope here ?

Tn will also have the dubious distinction of having the highest number of hypocrites in the world.

    @ganesh
yep. agreeging or not agreeing is a different matter. this is not very diffeent from islamic fundamentalism. these bastards will again be voted.. adhaan indiavin thalai ezhuthu.

    Sathya

    >>Pre-Marital sex is not ok.Dont try to justify this for heaven sake…

    Not ok for whom?
    Idhu each person’s personal choice.
i think we have no business to talk about whether its right or wrong so long as its not rape.

Anyway, that was Kushboo’s opinion just like u have yours.

  10. Siddharth Says:

    neenga solvadhu 1000% unmai prabhu..

the crazy thing is even some idiots of our genaration subscribe 2 these crazy views of these so called activists who actually do more damage 2 d cause of women.

i salute kushboo’s guts..very few celibrities come out of the closet like this abt such issues.

like u rightly said these are victorian values exported into india during the days of the empire.we were an open society..

  11. Ganesh Says:

    Prabu Karthik
    how to call,
    Prabu or Karthik ?!

Are we socially responsible to that stage.
Here in US people live together for years but there is no commitment whatsover. They breakup,I know men and women from this country facing lot of emotional/psychological issues becoz of this.
Appa/amma peru theriyadha pasangala valaranuma ?!
Our society has to go a long way before we come to this.
In her case she said they where sure of what they wanted and then got married. Namma orrula eppada santhula sindhupadalamangara case
so people have to very careful about these things.
Let us teach them the plus and minus then let them decide be responsible for their actions.

Marriage and family values we need these things, Prabhu.
Then were do we drawline between moral and immoral.

Finally these are personal issues, that each one should think through and then do as they please.

  12. Ganesh Says:

    Sorry for the disgression
We have deviated from the maintopic of Kusboos freemdom of speech to marriave vs livingtogether, premarital sex etc.
I still support her freedom of speech.

    BTW
I highly recommend people to read this
    http://www.marriagebuilders.com/graphic/mbi5025_qa.html

  13. Prabu Karthik Says:

    @Ganesh

i am nobody to justify some x or y.

The situation u r saying has got more to do with responsibility than morality.

Nobody said marry late to the younger generation. but u find more and more people getting married in the late 20s early 30s. why? yenna avangalluku theriyum nalla padikanum, oru nalla velai la utkaranum appuram dhaan kalyanam. idhukku enna moral policing thevai pattudhu?

As long as the persons involved are major, its their responsibility to think and act appropriately.

    we are making 2 assumptions
that all children in the family setup in india have a great, peaceful life.

That all married couples are happy. India la divorce rate kammi not bcos they are happy but bcos they have no other option.

Again the result - it depends on case to case basis.

i am not here to glorify western culture or the lack of it. All i am saying is, reality is in fact different from what we assume to be.

lastly as u rightly said, the topic is why the hell should she go out of tamil nadu bcos of this.

Its after all her right to speak.

Another thing, whatever i wrote is my opinion. en opiniona en blog la sollalena vera enge solradhu:))

  14. Ganesh Says:

    Parbu
read my reply , I havent said this right that is wrong all I am saying, we have to go long way b4 deciding on these issues.
    BTW
“Another thing, whatever i wrote is my opinion. en opiniona en blog la sollalena vera enge solradhu:))”

Ofcourse its your opinion, what I am wondering is where did I give you the idea/impression that I am against you or against your opinion.

  15. Prabu Karthik Says:

    @ganesh

    >>Marriage and family values we need these things, Prabhu.

Then were do we drawline between moral and immoral.

These lines did add to my confusion.

  16. thennavan Says:

I am not sure if premarital sex is a good thing or a bad thing but I am sure of one thing. Our current prudish attitudes to sex is not “inherent” to India but a result of the British legacy (Victorian prudery). Why is it wrong to even utter the word “sex” in the land of the Kamasutra?
    :-)

  17. Prabu Karthik Says:

    supera soneenga thennavan,

the current happeneings are all stage managed.

the real tragedy is, this kushboo just goes to show how hypocritical we are.

  18. Ravi Says:

Again a good post Prabhu and very well worded. Hats off!

I too feel there is nothing wrong in what Khusboo said. She gave this interview after a survey finding that certain percentage of the youth population was involved in pre-marital sex. So given this trend, the next best advice you could probably give to saying a ‘no-no’ to sex, would be to have safe sex.

About the ‘karpu’ episode, there have been numerous cases of rape, sexual assault in TN. So if these victims wished to marry? would there no marriage life for them just because they lost their ‘karpu’? And these people are supposedly the ‘murpokku sindhanai’ group. Heights of hypocracy!!

  19. Prabu Karthik Says:

    Ravi

thanks to our hero worshipping tamil culture an avg tamilian is always looked down upon by our north indian brothers…

  20. Shinu Mathew Says:

    Well Done Prabhu
It’s the people of Tamilnadu to decide they want pre-marital sex or not. No damn politician or any other for that matter, has the right to decide what’s good or what’s wrong. And just see the AIDS Control society’s this year Report. TN lead the most cases reported. Tamilinas don’t indulge in extra/Pre marital sex huh?
The Hypocrites are misleading the peoeple by large. Raise your voice.

    Kushboo and company

    1. Pre Marital sex is here!. That’s the truth. There is no denying it. I’m not debating whether that’s right or wrong. That’s another thread. The purists versus the liberals thread.

    2. the fact is that Pre marital sex is here. That’s the gist of what Kushboo said (not me!) Its NOT just metros or Mumbai or Delhi that the “pre marital sex” is happening. There are also extra marital going on all over India

    3. *Tamil Nadu is NO exception*. we are not some island 1000s of mile away from India. We are not backyard of bihar. TN is an in place now. We are very much into the mainstream. There are surveys that show that approx 40% of college students have had sex before marriage !!! Now please don’t come back and tell me ONLY MEN had sex, and that too all by themselves…

    4. Tamil movies have as much sex portrayed in them as bollywood movies. In fact there is a great competition there in showing more sex

    5. What happens in Indian cities gets noticed and has a multiplier effect. It’s soon followed by others in smaller towns and villages

    6. The dress, the dance, the music… the cinema … these have always moved from cities to towns to villages

    7. So would this “sex” thing move to every place

    8. Womens lib is calling this “freedom of expression” and *supporting Kushboo*

    9. So to me it looks like Kushboo has a point. *Men who expect their wife to be a virgin are fools*
