Yahoo –> Google –> Previewseek?
Got a forward about this new kid on the block.
Previewseek
Not bad at all. What caught my attention was the dynamic left tree menu showcasing the categories. There is also something like ‘Save this link’ (Save where i dont know) and links like ‘More from here’ and ‘More like this’.
Best of all, the search results comes with a thumb-nail screen shot of the webpage.
Looks like the number of readers who might land on this page looking for
‘Karthik Tiffin Center’ or ‘Arvind Swamy Marriage’ will be slightly less in future.
One thing i did not quite like it was its name. I mean ‘Take a leak’ would’ve been more friendly if you ask me. But seriously, a wannabe google competitor should have a name half as hep, sticky or cool as google or yahoo. Previewseek looks straight out of a GRE/GMAT/CAT preparatory guide. Chances of me making a typo while typing url and then verifying that address in Google is not all that low.
On the whole i would still dare not say a google killer but a worthy competitor to google. Isn’t an achievement in itself?
A note of cribbing
The international blogosphere is rife with reviews for this search engine but none of our well-known bloggers (blogs i read in addition to newspapers)
has ever mentioned anything on it. The only person i know and who has ever said anything was kummi. I read his comment somewhere. I suffer from geekophobia since childhood so i absolve myself of any responsibility to post early. Looks like even well known geeky indian bloggers are slowly turning blogosphere into vikatan, kumudam and cinema express. Or maybe a classic case of that occasionall slip of the elephants.
A note of concern
Previewseek exposes a person’s details quite ruthlessly. I just searched for a well-known blogger and it just stopped short of giving his birth horoscope and star.
Google did the same but this classifies the details under each category making it all the more easy to track someone.
Careful folks (this includes me):(

Prabhu, hey I like it, looks very clean and like you mentioned the sidebar links are brilliant.
I just did a search on my company Quicksilver VoHo and was amazed to see the results..
I also did a search on myself and yeah you are right, it almost gave away details of my hidden machams

Would it prevent people calling you looking for Karthik Tiffin Center ?
Site looks cool..
among other things, i searched for my name and the snapshot gives the image of my old website. i changed that design more than 3 years ago.. dunno from where it is getting that image.
