Terror attacks…

September 11 happened, and till date any muslim whose identity and credentials are remotely suspicious has not been able to get any US visa without a proper security check. A security check typically takes 6 to 7 weeks. It does not matter if the person is an IT professional, or busines traveller, or student or whatever.
Whether it is right or wrong is a different issue.

But Indian govt’s reaction to terror so far have been, well…

We know terrorists view us as soft targets, we know terror comes from across the border, we know the motive is to destabilize and unsettle India and look at what we do,

We keep our borders open on the east as well as west,
We are trying to ‘protect’ illegal migrants from bangladesh
We run trains and buses,
Maybe we will soon run autorickshaws too…

I am not suggesting all those who travel between India and Pakistan are bad, nor are all the Pakistanis bad, but its our responsibility to be doubly careful in allowing entry to foreigners.

And all this inspite of Kandahar, Parliament attacks, Akshardam, IISc and now Varanasi.

When such things happen I don’t find any Imam coming out and say such terror attacks are a disgrace to Islam, which I believe is a disgrace in itself. Why can’t the Jamat e whatevers protest against terror attacks? Their own country (India) is attacked after all?

But hey, take it easy, the second test starts tomorrow and as for terror attacks it does not matter unless our own kith and kin are killed. Life goes on…

Ada pongapaa. Taking action against terrorism is something which will damage the secular image!

rubic_cube, agree with sub-servient attitude theory. actually it goes back to the Mughal era (how the brave rajputs gave their daugter’s in marriage to akbar suckss….). They then got the bug and became sub-servient to british.

But guys just cool down. These things will happen. Ellor melayum nuke pottutu azhiyaradhukku nama irukom. As I said in ferrari’s post, the key is to have both carrot and stick. Broadening the economic pie so everyone has work and not get attracted by fiery jihadi speeches is the best way around.

look at the way kashmiri youth are turning to army for recruitment. all they need is roti, kapda aur makan. Subsequent govts till the late 90s have failed to fulfill their basic requirements. now hopefully steps are being taken and the situation has improved vastly. I remember when I was in highschool I used to depressed always. There used to be daily bomb blasts in kashmir, pitched battles.

Does anyone remember the terrorism in Punjab ? Transistor bombs anyone ? Again Punjab was quitened with a carrot & stick policy. The key is to make ur people contended and satisfied with their life then ur neighbor will not succeed in their nefarious designs.

    Always look inwards…. ciao

    RC,

I dont think its possible.Nuke options are big time high risk options, ith long lasting after effects.

what i would suggets is show our moght in the elections.
vote for a party which would safeguard our rights, vote consistently, vote as a community.
    will post abt it soon.

true. but its for those minorities to realise this.

    karthik,
For a second I thought you sounded like Bush.. terror and war.
A country must have a strong army
not to invade other countries but for protecting its people.. It is one thing to have laws and tighter security - there will be problems in enforcing them esp in a democartoc secular and peaceful country..I mean India.

India - would always be secular. I dont think I want to say we have a secular ‘image’. ..India has the second largest population of muslims in the world. India might be one of the very very few countries where the minorities (I dont agree that are minorities though…other than for claiming some benefits) are happy. We want to continue that way but safeguard our borders…

Namba eppadi irukanum..Bush mari war thodukanuma summa summa?? Indians mattum adjust pannalaina we would have died with 108 languages now - fought and divided the country into separate smaller countries..We should work on finding why some even internal forces are involved in such criminal behaviour..Creating jobs..yes there might be many other things that can help..Think and say things as if you run the country…Ofcourse we all run and we have part. Most of the comments typed make me feel Indians are feeling ‘why care’ ‘its our adjustment’ - we reflect what exactly we hate..and this is the attitude that personally I feel that saddens me.

    priyums

there is a difference between adjstment and ilichavaaya mentality. we indians dont assert even when any atrocity happens…

i’d say as a first step, dont vote for minority favouring “secular” parties. they shud know that our votes matter too.

i know what i sound like. but something has to be done and soon before me and my next generation either lose our lives or our identity…

  16. Narayanan Venkitu Says:

    PK,

Pardon me if I am talking like a Pro-American / Anti-Indian. My heart aches when I hear and read about terrorism and the blind eye by the govt.

Value for life is a big thing here ( please don’t the topic of war and ask about the lives of other citizens.in other countries..I don’t want to go there).

Its a shame the way Indian Govt. is taking these Terrorism issues. Even if 1 person dies…in a terrorist attack..it should be treated like a major attack.

Remember , Mufthi Mohammad Syed.? Just to release his daughter the Indian Govt. conceded to the demands of the terrorists.!

Bottom line, lives of MLA’s MP’s and their families are morre important that a common man.!!

This attitude should change. The govt of India should take steps to ensure that any terrorist whether he kills 1 or 1 Million should be punished.

PS - After all in the Indian Society people walk past accidents…afraid of the laws…! to help the victim.!
Or atleast it used to be that way.!
    Has it changed now??

    VALUE FOR LIFE - !!

  17. Prabu Karthik Says:

    NV Sir,

I totally agree to yr views…
The life of a common man is nothing when compared to the life of a VIP.

And even among common man, the life of a minority is more valuable than majority

I dont know if its due to the population or anything, but we have utter disregard for humanlife.

it’s also bcos people can put up with anything…they just dont assert or fight. this is true especially in the cities…

its always “en kudumbam, naan nalla irukanum, mithavan epdi pona enakku enna?”

i think its instilled in our culture..
