I am totally out of touch with the new movie scene out there. Kameswaran MMKR la solra maadhiri “enakku therinjadhellaam Kamal, Rajini - Rajini, Kamal dhaan” (much like how for desis in the US, car means Honda, Toyota - Toyota, Honda)
I very strongly suspected that Pattiyal would have an adverse impact on Pudhupettai while reviewing the movie and even came up with the expression “Alva for Selva” :-). Vishnu Vardhan did a super smart move by releasing the movie early and rather silently without much fanfare. I suspect a few of the better mvoies will die in the Tamil new year sentiment stampede. Psychologically, it could already be because Vishnu Varadhan already failed with Kurumbu and is not all that afraid of failure, whereas Selva has mostly been successful - that puts a tremendous amount of pressure.

i agree to yr statement mostly. usually the first film to come with the new genre wins. pattiyal is a crime/dada movie and in these times of kalvanin kadhali and got a good opening.
But i happened to see pattiyal on sunday and i think selva’s treatment shud be markedly different from vishnuvardhan. if i go by selvaraghavan’s earlier films that is. more on this later…
