Arasiyal la idellam….

I was really amused to read the poll promises by the parties, especially the DMK led alliance.

Free distribution of land, Color televisions, what not.

But somehow more than all these promises it would’ve been more sensible and appropriate if the DMK leader MK had promised to go to the assembly and speak for the people of Chepauk who keep voting him :)
Actually more than the television, i expected “welfare” schemes like (dont ask me for whose welfare) life time subscription of “New Dinakaran” to the entire population of Tamil Nadu at a concessional rate :)
Some of the bloggers like shyamk have come out openly in favor of JJ. He had very neatly highlighted issues like stable government, industrial climate and tsunami disaster handling.

Save for Tsunami relief and to some extent the recent flood relief i am not convinced in other arguments put in JJ’s favor.

The bottomline is, the issues which matter to an educated, professionally qualified IT professional is of absolutely no concern to the average kuppan, subban in the interiors of Tamil Nadu.

Also, anyone who has interacted with a few govt. employees will tell that they are not exactly amused by JJ’s handling of their strike. But it looks like even the most ardent supporter of Amma has missed to realise JJ’s contribution in one particular sphere where JJ has made a mark which would be very difficult to emulate.

Terrorism and Law and Order.

Forget her petulance. Forgive her ruthlessness in handling the Govt. employees strike and her somersault later due to the failure in the parlimentary elections.
Ignore her stance in the Kanchi Seer issue which has more twists and turns than a Dan Brown novel. Overlook the sheer disdain she reserves for anyone else in her party.

But i think she deserves credit for ensuring that there is no major caste violence in all these 5 years in any part of Tamil Nadu.

I would also like to thank her for the measures taken to ensure Coimbatore is back to normal after the 1998 bomb blasts.

i second you on amma’s handling of law and order.

as for karunanithi what puzzles me is that how do people of that constituency elect him time and again?has he really done anything for that constituency?

on second thought does karunanithi really deserve to contest an election?for the past 5 years he didn’t set his foot inside the legilative assembly, merely issuing directives and announcements from his house and anna arivalyam.shouldn’t such politicians be barred from contesting elections.after all people don’t elect him to sit at his house.

Rightly said about Coimbatore. Peace is growing back mainly due to JJ’s control. Old KN didn’t do much to control what happened in CBE..

  3. Casement Says:

Very true! One must appreciate JJ’s bold and forthright attitude in executing her decisions.

Further, as you rightly pointed out, MK could have come up with a more worthy promise than the desperate TV promise . For example, any family would be better off with a promising job than the promise of a TV!:)

I couldnt help mentioning, particularly, under the topic “Arasiyalla idellam”…about the various actors running from camp to camp to make hay while the sun shines.

Sir, I have my views presented in my blog, if you care to have a look. Many Thanks.

    what about “Namba” anna…..
    :-))

  6. Ravi Says:

Very true PK. JJ’s handling of law and order is really appreciable. It will be good if politicians stop freebies (other than the really necessary ones) and make people realise that nothing comes for free in this world!

It looks weird about their promises !

    That says it all
    no hope for TN
anyway lets wait and see what happens in may

Well written ! She has showm the most promise, and although progress is slow to come, I see light at the end of the tunnel, or atleast an inkling of it with JJ. With others, like you say, it’s all about administration and politics. Very little “stuff” gets done !

  10. Jeevan Says:

I agree for the last 3 years the voilance was reduced in TN, compare to other 3 states. JJ has done good things for Students, like free books form 1st STD to 12th STD, free cycle.

hehehe. u sure have sense of humour:)

    susubala,
i suspect these manifestos are done more for the attention value than the feasibility aspect.

kanniyakumari la thiruvalluvar silai thirandhuttu ennamo perisa sadhichutadha kamikama, some ground work has been done. but it remains to be seen.

we must also remember that the majority of these happened after she lost the 2004 parliamentary elections.

u never know with Amma. i know better than to trust her in anything.
