Oops ++

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

The first Oops is that me and mom met with a small accident y’day while coming back from a temple in ECR. Nothing too serious but the doc has to take the tailor avatar and do a dozen stitches in my left foot.
The problem is it bleeds if i walk. Looks like i will be confined to my room for the few days..
Amma is relatively better. Need to investigate if her pain in the back persists…

The other oops is that i am in office on a sunday for some political reasons :) Politics illadha office ellam office a? Since we are an MNC we engage in international politics :D
The last oops was the Germany-Sweden match y’day.. It was as if only one team played the match. Naane goal potruppen andha madhiri easy penalty ellam miss panni.. ennatha solla…:(

Oops i promised my mom that i will stay off blogging and computers for a few days and take complete rest..

Habits die hard :)

Client server concepts redefined

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

Today, i took an interview in our office. I dont know about the candidate but this being only my second interview as an interviewer (The first interview was in my previous organisation and it was long after we decided to hire that fellow anyway :)) and so i was obviously a bit edgy..

I was not sure what sort of questions to ask. My senior backed out at the last minute saying he was not necessary if i am in…
I was keen not to scare the person yet wanted to get the relevant answers from her…

Question (me to the candidate looking at her CV):
“You have mentioned client-server concepts, what exactly do you mean by that?”

Answer :
“Sir, the clients will come up with work and we are supposed to finish the work and send it to them..

Question (me, now have i not told before that i am innocent?)
“OK? so..”

Answer:
“Thats it sir”

Question: (a bit taken back by this)
“So, this is what you mean by client-server concepts?!!”

Answer:
“Yes sir”

What i would never understand is, how the hell did i maintain a straight face and why in the world did she ever mention this in her CV? !!!

Different economic spectrums

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

On one hand you have a guy who says The world is flat.–> click here for Thomas Friedman’s interview

One the other we have a great mind who maintained that getting flatter will not take us in the right path and who always said ’small is beautiful’ mostly, if not always …He may be gone but his ideas and philosophies reverberate in every thinking individual till date…click here for EF Schumacher’s interview

I’ve been thinking really deeply about these things today and no wonder its beginning to rain in chennai :)

And those of you who are particuarly jobless, please read both these interviews..

For now, my vote is for EF schumacher…stay tuned for more on this….

THE CLASSIC

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

Jaya TV features some very good carnatic music based programmes early in the morning. Oh, I realize ‘early in the morning’ is such a relative and subjective phrase so let me be more precise - I guess it’s from 6.30 to 7 AM IST. Sometime back they even featured the Cleveland festival that RS so eloquently wrote about.

Today morning in one of the episodes, I could see some school kids performing brilliantly in violin and mridhangam. And me invariably turns happy and envious whenever I see such young prodigious musical talent for obvious reasons. My knowledge in carnatic music ranges from 0 to -273 in a scale of 1 to 10:)

But hey, that would never prevent me from naming my favorite carnatic music album. It’s got to be THE CLASSIC by Unnikrishnan. It needs no introduction to any who is introduced to classical music. It’s almost as popular as some of the film albums and for very good reasons.

First, the structure and content would, by and large resemble a film album. It has about 10 songs and none of them exceeds 10 minutes - which is good because it means you are saved from lengthy Alaapanas. Knowledgeable carnatic music lovers should excuse me here but for me lengthy alapaanas are a huge turn-off. Invariably I find the singer and the co-performers in an ecstatic state during an alapaana and people like me begin to think about matters of critical importance like Asin’s next movie.

Secondly, the album has numbers like Paluke Bangarumayana, Kelathi Mama Hridhaye and Vandanamu which any music lover can enjoy irrespective of his background.

The third reason, I guess, is Unni’s melliflous voice and his popularity after his Ennavale in Kadhalan. Experts like Subbudu crib when seasonsed carnatic musicians turn to film music for some quick buck. Their ground is that, essentially a carnatic song is different from film song in content, style and pace and hence the singer’s voice gets disturbed. That may be true but this trend does have its benefits. I don’t think I would’ve bought this album before ‘Ennavale’. How many people knew about Bombay Jeyshree before “Vaseegara…”? Not many I would suppose. So middle-ground albums like THE CLASSIC make people even like PK to listen to carnatic music. I wish more such albums gets released and identified. I also request readers to let me know if they come across any…

Talking about music and we cannot be far off from KJY, can we? If you have time please do go to Raaga.com >> Malayalam songs section>> select a film called Aaram Thamburaan >>and listen to one number called Hari Muraliravam and let me know:)
AWESOME is the only word i can think off..

PS:
Abba!! rombo nalaiku aprom oru urupadiyana post pottachu :p
