Save Pozhichalur

It pains me to read about this.
Some of my friends own houses in this place. A few have been living there since their childhood. Their house is perhaps their only asset.

How come no further ‘development’ expansion projects comes up in places like Boat Club?? I’d say Boat Club is an excellent place to build another air port, so that VIPs and dignatories can use that and come into the city fast than struggle all the way from Meenambakkam??

Curiously, none barring the HINDU talks about any of these issues. The mainstream media’s primary concern remains with the release of ‘Bheema’, Vijay’s next remake and of course, ‘Shivaji’ and ‘Dhasavadharam’.

    PK, ur mixing up issues

fact, the airport needs to be expanded. boat club cannot house an airport. now these houses have to go to expand the airport

the problem as i see it is fair compensation. assuming they are paid 150% the current value of the land, will they refuse? demanding compensation is one thing. if the government doesnt pay them compensation, and fair compensation, they should protest, i would support them.

but then saying that development is bad, etc is bullshit, which is what uve said in the post.

if a development project has to come up in boat club area, and the government can pay 50% over the market price, the people shud take it and leave. protesting then too is nonsense.

the issue is compensation, not development per say.

Vatsan, when in the Indian history that one has received “fair” compensation without any hassles, without the involvement of % commission, share to the politicians ? This is one thing the residents here fear, else they would have givenup their lands for the sake of development.

These people here fight for their cause, because the original plan of land acquisition was the vacant lands in the north of airport. But those lands belonged to politicians, hence the plan was altered to cover the southern side- a plan to destroy 5000 houses and more than 20,000 residents. How fair is this ?
When the govt can shelf the satellite city project to cover its ass,why not this residential place ?
Yes, expansion is needed, but not at the expense of public lives and properties.

I suggest you to take time to read the links below.

    Hmm..what can I say.

I remember reading a story that Vijayakanth used his connections and diverted the Highway around his Hotel or some other property.

IMHO - The airport needs to be expanded. Its a shame that Chennai has such a dirty stupid airport constucted with no aesthetic sense whatsoever.
I was so upset to see eairport the way it is when I landed last week. Lucky ..immigration customs etc was good.

I am not sure if the residents there would get any justice. They don’t have a choice. These are bound to happen I think..but..I feel sad for them. Like Vatsan said…they would have to be given a decent compensation.

then why don u file a pil stating that vacant plots be used?

IN WB fair compestation has been paid to farmers, the issue there is dfferent, when that can be done, why not in TN, cant u argue for that?

and file a pil on project report.

im not opposed to the entire idea plans could be altered, but PK in his post has mixed te issues, development has costs, there is no such thing as a free lunch. his analogy of boat club is absurd to say the least
