Man proposes, HR disposes?
Its time this blog got more suave and cool. So let’s do some case analysis like the B-school types with some real world situations. Once upon a time, there lived a good looking girl, working an IT company. Let’s call her Rani Mangamma for now. As is usually the case with all good looking girls, atleast one guy is after her. So this guy, lets call him ‘Maanga’, proposes to her over instant messenger. ( Now you know why I called him Maanga).
Now, to my mind, the girl had all the liberty in the world to
1) Accept him, or
2) Reject him and give the familiar ‘Naan unnai nalla friend a nenachen’ dialogue, or
3) Put him on hold by playing hard to get.
But what the girl did had me scratching my head. She took a screen shot of the guy’s message and had promptly sent a mail to the HR.
As far I know, proposing to someone is not the same as misbehaving.
This is something personal between the guy and the girl. I don’t see how the HR got anything to do with it. In what way will it solve the problem?
Let’s assume the HR calls and says, “Amma, Rani Mangamma, Andha payyan - Nallavan, Vallavan, Matter therinjavan, adhnunaale ok sollidu.” Will the girl accept the proposal?
Apparently the HR had called and advised/warned the guy. What would’ve been the advise? That one should never propose to a girl one likes?? On the one hand, the top leadership advices us to be proactive, take ownership, initiative and all. And see what happens if we try to follow their advice for a change?
Unfair world!
If I’d been the HR and if I am asked to advice the guy, I would’ve just said,
“Dude, you deserve a much more sensible girl.”

thats hilarious and you’re right. he definitely deserves a more mature girl.

Idhu ennapa…..”miss kitta solliduven” maathiri irukku.Appuram HR enna “stand up on the bench ” sonnangala?
But our man maanga..the maanga mandai..should thank his lucky stars…namba Mangatha has not filed a s.harrassment at work place case. (ofcourse proposing wont amount to harrassment…but she could have always tried.).

Actually even here in America people tend to stay away from office relationships , I have observed that most people tend to keep their work and personal live seperate. And so called sexual harrassment lawsuits are filed quite often.

Paesaaama HR department la ‘Naataaamai’ nnu oru pudu designation kOduthudalaaam!

This is somewhat akin to how parents complain to a college principal for their daughter/son falling in love with someone else on the college campus! How ridiculous is that? Also if a girl happens to get eve-teased by some moron outside the college gates, the college principal somehow bears the responsibility for any harm that comes to her! Idhu enna nyayam?? adhe madhiri dhaan iduvum…:) Edho “Maanga” nyayam..

I was searching for live telecast of virdhunagar mariamman oil agni satti and ended up on this blog.
Intresting read
Regarding this post, there are few basic rules to be followed
Such workplace adventurism can result in summary dismisal in most places. Read the company policy on these matters before proposing. If it is your personal life, dont bring it into workplace.
Today companies are actively searching the net to look at your blogs and other online scribblings to study your temeprament, attitude, etc. Hence it is no surprise on how the company reacted.
Honestly what the girl did was correct IMO. Instead of sexual harrasment complaint, I would prefer an eve teasing complaint which would result in a non bailable case.
All I can say is Mr. Maanga was lucky to escape with a warning.

Hi Prabhu,
I’m visiting your blog for the first time, and let me tell you, its awesome!!
Regarding your post, I remember a similar incident in office, where a girl forwarded the letter to the CEO. (Do we work for the same company? ;-))
PS: Why did the guy propose via messenger?
