Passerby make a valiant attempt to move an injured cow away from the path of the oncoming Kota Jan Shatabdi. The cow had presumably been hit on the flanks by a passing train a short while ago.

Notwithstanding Nithari, say what you want about India but this pic is one proof that we Indians are definitely not as bad as it is projected by some. Apparently the oncoming train, in this instance was stopped just to save the poor thing.

Here are some other instances in the recent past where i’ve seen the good face of India

1.When me and mom had an accident in ECR.
The guy who gave his handkerchief to hold my bleeding leg, would’ve in all probability given up his only kerchief for my sake. The much abused auto rickshaw driver of chennai then took me and mom to a doctor nearby and did not bother to collect his fare for the distance.

2. My friend Satya’s guesture a few years back.
A speeding  Mini-truck(Swaraj Mazda,DCM Toyota type) knocked down a commerical carrier auto one afternoon near Nandanam signal. Some 4 of my colleagues had gone down from our 7th floor office since most of guys are ‘Dhum’ parties and they cannot go without one after lunch. Satya saw the hit and the auto somersault and in a flash ran towards the auto, rescued the guy who had sustained head injury, took him to Royapettah GH and returned only after the guy’s family had come.

Please bear in mind that all this in a country where Emergency Healthcare is one of the lowest in the world. Not to mention that issues a helping guy may have to face from the police, hospital etc.

It is all very well to compare the west with us and say the concern for human life is poor in India, but please bear in mind that our metros put together may have more people than the entire population of a few countries, all fighting with each other for resources as fundamental as water, public toilets, etc..

I have to admit i’ve not been involved in any such heroics.

For the population and the issues in India, any other country would’ve had a civil war long back.

Miscellaneous

I was chatting with my friend and she had a very interesting thing to say about how Desis use eBay.

Apparently, eBay is a big draw for a good number of americans and it’s their default website to purchase things. Now, our ever smart desis hunt the net looking for crazy deals. Once they spot a deal, they make the purchase and promptly put it on sale in eBay at a margin :)

You can always survive so long as you have people dumber than you.

Mozhi - Mindblowing
Easily the best movie in recent times.

PKMC - OK
The minus point being that the movie ended 15 minutes after the story ended.

Fact:
It takes someone to come all along from Hyderabad to make me go from Velachery to Sathyam to watch a movie :)

My world this week

Where shall i start? I’m still gasping for breath!
This past week is perhaps my longest absence from blogosphere in the recent past.
The fact of the matter is, I was caught in a whirlwind of a project. Some gap in communication in San Jose and as a result a work was delayed 3 weeks but with no relaxation in the deadline. All this resulted in the most hectic, insane 3 weeks in my career ever!

My first major specification in a new company, a new setup, for a new client and with a  new  onsite coordinator did not help matters at all. A 12 hour network outage contributed its bit for the confusion!

But in the end, we made it!, thanks in no small measure to my onsite coordinator and couple of folks who assisted me at work!  Hey S~, i’m not sure you would get to read my blog anyday but i definitely owe you a treat!

No matter what they say

An India Dev. Center or Offshore Dev. Center associate will have to sweat it out for 16 hours a day at times :(

Bridal makeups in our weddings turn a good looking girl look plain ugly :(

A blogger will always find a topic to post :)

Indians cannot stop thinking about cricket :)

I’m gonna come home early today. Idhu sathiyam! :)

Horses for Courses

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

I happened to read this post by RS. So what do guys discuss and interact? From my experience, the dynamics of a guys’ interaction in a group setting will never be serious. For this purpose, I would define a ‘group’ as 3 or more guys. The agenda will most likely be ‘ottufying’ some guy, either alone or by connecting  a gal, or gossip about who is the hottest chick in the class/office etc. I do enjoy listening to this stuff but I rarely contribute actively in such forums.

One to one discussions are what I am more comfortable because unlike my blog, I like to listen more than talk in person :D

And I have some select things to discuss with select people. The more I know about a person the clearer are my topics of discussion. So I have some buddies to talk passionately about Ricky Ponting’s never ending run feast and why Shane Warne’s not great because he took 700 wickets but because he is such a great entertainer and  why Glenn McGrath is greater than Dennis Lilee, etc. And to those who think this is a fad, we’ve been discussing cricket for the last two decades and we are still going strong :) One would ping from Bay Area in midnight and another would call from Pune just to share the agony and excitement of a loss or win.

I do have a few in Chennai to share info and views about our profession, the trends in job market and opportunities available so that some of my friends who are ‘looking out’ can check. There’s another friend with whom I discuss about temples around Chennai and  here’s one to discuss blogosphere and related gossips :D

My childhood friend in LA and me discuss about marriage, business ideas and stuff, not that we do any business but its kinda interesting to discuss about such ‘cool’ things you know?:D

Myself and another close friend in hyderabad discuss real estate scenario, ROI on home loans, RGV’s and Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming projects, and the latest best-seller from Michael Crichton.

This is not to say I discuss only these things but by and large my classification is in synch with reality I believe.

So it’s mostly horses for courses, at least for me.

Time, please?

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Ah! I do not mean the time we ask even strangers. I’m desperately seeking some time credit beyond the 24 hours so that i can indulge in blogging. The last few days has been HECTIC.

In the midst of all this chaos, some work place wit made me smile too.

In a post-lunch training session,

Trainer: Ok, we’ll take a break for 5 minutes. But please be back in 5 minutes ‘cos we have a lot to cover.

Trainees: But then, to go from here to the pantry and come back would take 5 minutes, we can’t even drink coffee.

Trainer: Sure, take your coffee and get back to your seats immediately and you can drink during the course of the session. After all, if all can sleep during training session, there is no reason why you can’t have coffee :)

Another thing I noticed in my company made me write this. If at all chennai will be attached to Andhra Pradesh in say another 50 years, my CEO’s contribution towards that would be immense :) So much so, i’m thinking of changing my default
‘Hi, How are you?’ to  “Baagunnaavaa?” :)
