Horses for Courses

I happened to read this post by RS. So what do guys discuss and interact? From my experience, the dynamics of a guys’ interaction in a group setting will never be serious. For this purpose, I would define a ‘group’ as 3 or more guys. The agenda will most likely be ‘ottufying’ some guy, either alone or by connecting  a gal, or gossip about who is the hottest chick in the class/office etc. I do enjoy listening to this stuff but I rarely contribute actively in such forums.

One to one discussions are what I am more comfortable because unlike my blog, I like to listen more than talk in person :D

And I have some select things to discuss with select people. The more I know about a person the clearer are my topics of discussion. So I have some buddies to talk passionately about Ricky Ponting’s never ending run feast and why Shane Warne’s not great because he took 700 wickets but because he is such a great entertainer and  why Glenn McGrath is greater than Dennis Lilee, etc. And to those who think this is a fad, we’ve been discussing cricket for the last two decades and we are still going strong :) One would ping from Bay Area in midnight and another would call from Pune just to share the agony and excitement of a loss or win.

I do have a few in Chennai to share info and views about our profession, the trends in job market and opportunities available so that some of my friends who are ‘looking out’ can check. There’s another friend with whom I discuss about temples around Chennai and  here’s one to discuss blogosphere and related gossips :D

My childhood friend in LA and me discuss about marriage, business ideas and stuff, not that we do any business but its kinda interesting to discuss about such ‘cool’ things you know?:D

Myself and another close friend in hyderabad discuss real estate scenario, ROI on home loans, RGV’s and Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming projects, and the latest best-seller from Michael Crichton.

This is not to say I discuss only these things but by and large my classification is in synch with reality I believe.

So it’s mostly horses for courses, at least for me.

Nice post PK….will be glad if you could post a kind of “part-2″ discussing on the “conversation with strangers”….sometimes i get scared continuing conversation with people who are in hardcore marketing….it turns to become interrogation, rather than discussion…:-)
