I dunno whats the point in calling for a bandh.. they know quite well that SC is not going to be bothered with these bandth poochandis.. if they want some media attention, why don't they try something novel? Like hitting themselves with a cricket bat on their own head? That would also attract attention and ppl could heave a sigh of relief.

I have hated bandh for many reasons in the past. I think they started sometime in early 80's. Our politicians should mature and think about some alternative way of protest. It is very difficult to change the mentality of old politicians. I do not see any changes in the near by future. Also, most of the politicians all over the world thrive by mere publicity and stunts. Ours are in no way exception and have their own style.

Good one PK..

I saw it in sun(???) news Air traffic also stopped from 6to6 for this Bandh...
My question would be why they didnt stop Sun Tv for this Bandh????
The true reason behind the bandh is , these guys wanted to do something against amma's Fast protest last week...as you said this bandh is true political stunt...:):)

"Coming to think of it, the only factor a public has direct control over, atleast once in 5 years, is the Legislature."

There are two actually. . the second thing is TV programming!

have you seen how recent SUN TV programmes (which are look alikes of US major network shows like "whose line is it anyways" , "shop till you drop", etc) suck up to the "SUN TV Neyar's" ? they prostrate themselves at the feet of the audience multiple times in each episode .
looks like audience controls ratings, ratings guarantee survival for the show !
Just like how politicians prostrate themselves at the feet of the people before elections.

You hit it right on in this post. Inspite of being a boy from a lower middle class family, I have spent many a guilty sleepless night thinking about the "chotu's" in my hostel who used to serve us food in the mess halls !! These kids were younger than me and everytime they used to say "bhaiya, roti!" and toss one on my plate, I used to feel bad. Sad thing is by the end of my first year in college I somehow got used to it!!

Your idea of 1:1 mentoring is great. It might close the divide.

great post.
