Marilee Jones Episode

For the uninitiated, the matter is simple. Marilee Jones has padded her resume with 3 degrees which she, shall we say, forgot to study. She’s done an amazing job for the past 28 years - without her degrees at an institution which is the Ivy of Ivy league - MIT.

But here’s one more perspective to that episode.

This leads me to three conclusions :

1. Resume padding happens as much in the developed world as in poorer nations.
2. Corporates over-emphasise the degree angle and under-emphasize the skills angle, attitude angle and character angle to do a job.
3. Consequently the arranged marriage market follows the corporates in all their over-emphasis and under-emphasis, at least in India.

Lets see how it happens in India, particularly in Chennai/ Bangalore/ Hyderabad

Step 1: Person Q goes and registers with a SAP/Programming Languages Institute, lets name it H and makes a down payment of say Rs. 25000.
Step 2: Person Q is taken through a crash course for three months by Ins H, which Q might/might not attend.
Step 3: Person Q comes out with a certficate with Ins H backdated 3 yrs. Person Q is also given work experience certificates for three years, along with salary increments documents, salary certificates etc.,

Another year later, Person Q finds himself as a Programmer/Consultant in a top MNC with an enviable salary. Sad, but true.

And I’m sure there would be a bunch of silly buggers asking me where they could find such institutes. I am in no way affiliated or involved with any of those organizations. I just happen to know friends who had more than 20 arrears in the fourth year of the college and yet are happily working now, after “chasing their papers”. Well, thats a different story now, isn’t it?
