Clash of the villains
Latest update:
Sun TV did not broadcast the Kalaignar Vizha! Raj TV did!!
In the last two days, a lot has been said and written by the people, bloggers and the press, not to mention the Sun TV Group(aka Sun TV party by Idlyvadai) on the Madurai episode. If you still do not know the madurai episode, pls. dont bother. This post is not for you ;p
As far as i am concerned, it is a clash of the villains.
Villain 1: elder son of our CM who literally rules Madurai.
Villain 2: a media mafia who have ulterior designs. They are not averse to hostile takeovers - be it a business or the entire state.
Right now, its advantage Villain 2.
The real tragedy was of course the loss of three(or four?) innocent lives.
But then ‘collateral damage’ is not a new concept to Dravidian culture in Tamil Nadu.
I only wish this tussle gets more complicated and messy as far as the villains and their families are concerned. They’ve grown so big and powerful that if at all somone can plot their downfall it should be their own kith and kin. Sabash! Sariyaana potti.
I sincerly pray there are no more collateral damages in the process though.

Too much of a good thing ?
Sun TV and the DMK had everything going for it as a team. I was going to write about how Sun TV in the name of news had a 5 minute segment on how their sister newspaper was holding some contest based on World cup Cricket. I was aruging with the wife and MIL that this was not “news”! and they said “this is a DMK channel. They can show what they want, by news they mean “news favorable to DMK” and we are used to this. If you dont like watching it, go away”. I was pleasantly surprised to see the news of “madurai burnt by DMK rowdies” on Sun TV. Of course like you said, there is nothing pleasant about people getting killed.
Would Sun TV actually become an unbiased independent channel ?
Let me pinch myself! Nah, dont think so…

I keep wondering why the blogosphere is so silent on Tamilnadu politics. No one seems to be bothered. Either that or people are too scared that somehow someone will prosecute them.
Both are bad.
I hope people write up entire satire pieces on Tamilnadu’s notorious family and maybe even come up with an Imsai Arasan kind of movie to raise awareness among people about why Karunanidhi is a danger to Indian Polity and he either needs to die or be made to quit or both.
I hope JJ wins the next election and restores some semblance of Law and Order in TN. This is what has been sorely missing.
