BNB,

Naan 'cheeni kum' parkalai. but enna kelvi patten na lot of scenes they've shot using sets.. its better me not comment on PC's natural lighting:) but BM rocks and as TPSK says, BM has a unique visual style.

TPSK,
>>But Balu mahendra’s style is unique and confined to natural lighting with emphasis on the characters, and the narrative, than being presentable, ostentatious and extraordinary, Which is a good thing!

Precisely!

Preethzzz,
anonymity helps in some occasions:)

I'm back on my old blogging space... Dunno if you remember me... Just thought its pretty funny that Vatsan appears to be there at all the blogger meets! haha... Never met any bloggers in my life... Apart from one i guess...

I don't know if the sense of anonimity helps or not... I guess its interesting... Blogging as a black sheep... But nevertheless...others knowing you and being able to relate to you and your blog helps...

I think PC's style is more varied. Santosh Sivan follows too. But Balu mahendra's style is unique and confined to natural lighting with emphasis on the characters, and the narrative, than being presentable, ostentatious and extraordinary, Which is a good thing! :) My favorite has to be "Moondram pirai" of all those films :P No one has captured the beauty of Ooty from the landscape to valley, as much as BM!

'RAja raja chozhan' the song from "Rettai val kuruvi", is one of my favorite songs too. Once again, Ilaiyan's music is used well by BM.

I am not so sure about natural lighting anymore, after watching Sriram's work in Cheeni Kum - might work in a tropical country like India round the year, but you are stretching it, if you attempt it in a place like England (first half is set there) which is overcast round the year.
