i fully agree!

* Just imagine losing the amount of money that paypal lost due to fraud in a similar venture in India - your reputation would be damaged beyond repair. The VCs in the bay area not only have deep pockets, they are also willing to take huge risks. Some of the VC money is invested in funds that ordinary people like pensioners are invested in, so they need to generate high returns. Most of their investments fail, so they try to make each investment go over the top in terms of taking risks etc. So a lot of the risk taking attitude while it is intrinsic to some degree to American culture, there is also the VC carrot and stick pressure exerted on founders . The employees also realise, the early one at least, that they can make it big and go the extra mile. If you work for the typical startup that succeeds big time, then probably you don’t need to work for the rest of your life(or at least not work as hard) - there is no such incentive **even** if you work for US VC funded startups in India.
* From working for these US startups in India I have realised the dark underside of these companies as well. Only the very mediocre ones open shop in India - no real American startup ever opens shop in India - real techies who are usually behind such startups despise outsourcing. In any case startup teams are very small and the communication overheads involved in outsourcing can be prohibitive for such companies. All these mediocre startups in India are chasing valuation - they are not really interested in solving any customer problem; nor or they trying to create something totally new like Paypal. Most startups are run by IITans or US returned folks how know fully well that it won’t work from day one - but are in it so that they can cash out at some point.
*Paypal is an interesting case where some strong domain knowledge was needed - finance. They were very lucky to find someone competent.

I would like to be very sincere with my comments. Your podcast was not very impressive as your writing. There are various factors. I have never closed your posts having read the first para. But I could not continue listening after few minutes. The reason could be the delivery. Probably you would have wanted to tell it more casually. Mixing of two languages. Talking in Tamil about a book written in English and many more simple things. The first impression looks like that you were not prepared of what to talk. Please script before you podcast. Probably it may help you. Please do not mind my sincere comments. Your attempt needs to be appreciated. As a sincere reader, I have expressed my sincere thoughts here.
