It’s not just the govt. offices, stupid!

I quit my previous organization.
Jan 23 2008:
I am sending my inquiry to my present company if the PF has been transferred from my previous organization. I was almost sure it would’ve happened. I just wanted to confirm.
I get a reply stating the request has been sent 3 months ago and no communication was received from my previous company. I call my previous company HR and I get a response that they did not receive such transfer request in the first place!
Who is to be blamed?
I am partly to be blamed since i just assumed that all these formalities would be taken care of by the concerned HR departments once i had signed the PF transfer request form at the time of joining.
But I could not help but think about the general apathy towards the employees’ hard earned funds. I guess I was lucky to get a response since i knew the HR person well in my previous organization. She even bothered to send a mail to find the whereabouts of my documents. But still its important for people to really understand how things work in the HR worlds of IT industry.
Oh yeah it will be a completely different story if the employee owes the company
It’s not just the govt. offices, stupid!

hi PK
glad that you are doing better now.. saw your gloomy post only now..
guess you moved out of the bench when the tsunami approached!
same thing goes on here with 401k. not only do you transfer the funds but you have to make sure that the old options in your plan are still available in your new plan, etc. etc.
kadaisila anyway halwa dhan! because the 401k’s go into stock market and when the market crashes so does your 401k..
you have to keep on top of it and keep switching between stocks and bonds and what not.. that is a full time job in itself.
hope your new job is treating you well !

R karthik.
kodumai.. your thing is worse than mine! dont be so optimisitc about them changing
Sundar Narayanan,
I dont understand the relevance of PF for IT employees. for me, for all practical purposes it just exists on paper. I think i am better off if the money is given to me. If i can handle a salary several times bigger than this every month, why shud the govt, keep this portion in their custody.
The worst part is even withdrawing will attract tax and you would not get it before 2 months.

Last line is a real punch. These days even pvt. companies behave the same way. Goes to show how sincere people are in their jobs. Infact customer apathy is ruling these days. Thanks to the buying power.

Its the attitude that matters PK. Be it Govt office or private ones, what matters is the attitude of ppl in those positions.
When I joined my current company in UK, they undertook a large scale verification procedure - by contacting all my previous employers, university etc. I was a lil’ worried abt the references from the university. Surprise of all surprises, Bharathidasan univ did the needful by faxing the required details to my co. Worst part is my ex-employer (an IT co. you know) who just didn’t bother. All this, after being in that company for 7.5 yrs and getting relieved properly… After lots of phone calls and begging, they finally replied and saved my day.

I usually withdraw the amount from each PF account when I leave a company. Contrary to popular perception, the cheque is issued fairly quickly by the government.

Invite me too!!!!! The same happened with me! First, they were telling it will take around 6 to 7 months for transfer and was told to wait and then I was told the letter never reached the prev employer

I completely agree with you. If a HR person can go through this, I can imagine what would have happened with u.
