Pleasures of Virudhunagar
#1 - I get to sit in a browsing center with machines almost as old as me
#2 - The browsing center plays songs like ‘Ilamai idho idho’ from sakalakalaa vallavan
#3 - One person comes and ask the browsing center guy with a hadnout, “anney, idhai print edukanumney, evlo anney selavu aagum, xerox edukara madhiri dhaaney idhuvum?”
#4 - I get to listen to words like “pombalai yaal” meaning lady
Oh man, how can i compare this to something as alien as ‘Gal’.
Not exactly pleasure things:
Power goes off for atleast 2 hours a day ![]()
I twisted my ankle while climbing down from upper birth in a hurry and hobbling now, bloody irritating ![]()
I wanted to go to Srivilliputur and that will remain unfulfilled till my next trip.
This place has lotsa things i cannot stand.
For e.g a temple has a board like “Thiru XXXXX Thevar Pillayaar kovil”. Note that Devar takes precedence even before Pillayaar?
In fact the whole of South Tamil Nadu is like this in my perception.
Its very much the way it was 30 years back. Compare this to places like Bangalore and Chennai which looks foreign every 5 years.
Nevertheless I do like this place. Me and virudhunagar are not made for each other. But we are an unsual working combo. Like the way a previous day kaarakuzhambu works better than a chutney for a dosa made now.
