Citizens guardians trust

Go to Ashok Pillar area and ask for one Ravi aka V.Ravichandran, the founder chairman of Citizens Guardians Trust. Chances are you will be taken straight to his place by the locals.

Citizens Guardians is a trust which was formed with the sole motto of taking up public interest/civic issues that affect the common man of Chennai.

He has been in the news on the CCRCP issue, allegedly one of the biggest con-acts by the bureaucracy in the history of Tamil Nadu state.

Before someone starts off with,”aama, ivaru case pottu.. adhu vandhu.. jeyuchu.. ” raagam, let me tell you he has already been quite successful in rescuing a public park in Ashok Nagar area. That is just a single instance that i recollect now. I am sure there are lot more successful initiatives to his credit.

More on him here and here

I was told he was even featured on ibnlive.
I have promised to do a website for him. I have also offered to assist him in taking photographs for his public interest initiatives when I am free.

It takes a lot of guts, gumption and good sense to stand against the political big wigs of chennai, endure the apathetic ‘india urupadadhu’ junta, the judicial delays, the ever pervasive corruption and yet win landmark cases for the common man. Mr. Ravi has been doing just that.

Why don’t you guys call and convey your ‘outside’ support, if not inside support? After all he is working for us. A work in which we have as much responsibility as this forty-two year old resident of Ashok Nagar.

Even I too would’ve liked him to be written about in Vikatan, Kumudam etc than a blog which is read by a handful at best. But then he is neither Shreya nor Kadu Vetti Guru. Whats the point? Totally bland. No masala :(

    Hi PK,
I have been seing one such nuisance frequently. Its about a lake which is there on the 100ft road between chrompet and pallavaram (near GST). I dont know the history, but guess it was a large one & been split into two by the road. The pallavaram side looks good (somehow). The chrompet side has almost became a dumpsite. Thanks to the Pallavaram municipality. Loads and loads of garbage is being dumped and burnt there. The irony in that is, they have kept a notice board stating that dumping waste is prohibited on the lake. I suppose, it is not applicable for them. They have almost covered 90% of the lake. No body will believe that there was a water body. This was bothering me for a long time. Please share your thoughts on how a comman man could contribute to stop this issue. thanks.

I am not sure if you have come across this website www.goodnewsindia.com (It is done by a person based in Chennai)

It is a compilation of good work done by small and lesser know individuals as mentioned in your post making a progressive difference in the country we live in. It is truly an inspiring site and i think more than the people who have gone out of the country to contribute for it there are much more who have sacrificed much lucrative opportunities to really grow this country.

As usual what does our nation do?…. fail to recognise them!!! For them the sheen of the NRI wealth is much more important than those who toil for a change in our nation’s soil.

In the recently concluded Cannes Advertising festival, JWT India won a Grand Prix for a piece of work done by them for Times Of India called the ‘Lead India’ campaign in the Direct category. It was voted as the best piece of work among 2000 entrants by a 30 member jury from all across the globe. Yes I do agree it was a novel effort by Times Of India to awake a entire nation by saying that you are responsible for change and don’t wait for it to happen and start a debate on it by anchoring Amitabh and Shahrukh. They had the typical TV commercial of a small boy trying to clear a felled tree which is blocking traffic, all by himself while the government authorities and the public just sit and wait for someone to do it. Finally they all get into the act and help the tree to be moved and the traffic starts to flow, signifying that you can get the nation to move. The TV commercial was produced well with electrifying lyrics and music. If only the agency or the advertiser had done some bit more research and sincerely unearthed real gems who are making a difference and showcased them as part of Lead India campaign, they would have done real justice to their efforts. Rather they spent their money on a cliche TV commercial :(

Why do we always look for star power and foreign return for inspiration? When will the nation and the media truly honour simple individuals who are making a big difference in the grass root level?!!

    Jago India!!

Have not seen this commercial yet. I mean my intention is to highlight what these people are doing. i have visited goodnewsindia before.
i also try to help their cause / make their life better in some way.

  7. Malesh Ponnusamy Says:

Your intentions are right and please continue to so do. Good people with good intentions need whatever support they can have.

I was referring to the big corporates who have big money and can influence a societal change, don’t make use of the opportunities to do something worthwhile. They always fall short of doing justice to a cause. Thats what disappoints me.
