Verppattru
Verppattru is my first Indira Parthasarathy novel. I would not call this as a classic, but it is still a decent read. I liked the irony at the end. A guy who is hell-bent on fighting caste, at last gets his job because of his caste ![]()
Actually the central theme of the novel is the hypocrisy by various characters in various situations. The person who seems the most dogmatic (kesavan’s father) in the beginning, is the one who adapts well with reality without losing his principles towards the end.
Verdict: Time irundha padikalaam

Sounds like the movie crash. Have you watched the movie ? I am surprised it got an Aascar. In the movie one of the white cops who tries very hard not to be racist ends up killing a black guy.
On a tangential note, this is actually a profound topic. There are some wise folks who say that head on confrontation does not solve problems, not just social problems. For instance most of the people who try get rid of ‘kamam’ constantly end up thinking of the opposite sex and may end up being more lustful. Koranga nenaikama marundha kudikaradhu romba kashtam. Though it looks like hypocrisy, most of these earnest characters actually are quite sincere - but they don’t realise the magnitude of what they are up against. They are literally tilting at windmills.

Its not just govt. jobs. I am not sure if you saw last week’s Neeya naana… almost all the seniors agreed that there is considerable community bias in public/IT sector.

PK,
I did see some part of it where they were speaking about switching jobs. Had to leave for b’lore and hence missed the show.
