Completely agree.Jai Ho is a very very average song even by Rahman standards.

Just need to understand that this is for his entire body of work and he was in the right place at the right time.

To act as though he is the most original composer to come out of India is an insult to himself and his predecessors/contempories

Mira Nair’s ‘Salaam Bombay’was a much better film on the city.We have come out with a lot of films which are Oscar material.Don’t understand why the media is going ga ga on the film,nominations etc.

As an after thought,these days the media goes overboard on every thing except the right things

I thought the film was very very ordinary. A brilliantly shot masala with decent music, bad acting, predictable screenplay, gaping holes in the plot. And i find it incredible to accept the fact that how can anyone (ok, indian) not find it odd and disconcerting that sulmdogs alternate between Hindi and British accented English?

As for the awards, Kaasu vaangittaanga ba! j/k, its winning every mentionable award in sight. Dunno what you and i are missing

As for our Rahman, i thought the first half BGM was good (O Saya sizzled) and the second half score was just about OK. To be frank, Jai Ho is an apology of a song, especially in Rahman’s own lofty standards. I take it that he has got these nominations for his brilliance in his works in general.

I agree this is not the greatest ARR album. My favorite was Ringa Ringa - a clear take on Choli ke peeche (as requested by the director)..

But ARR and the cinematographers deserve mention in this film. Mathabadi this is a simple, linear, rags to riches story… idhuku oscar laam over…infact nomination e rembo over…

I am sorry…PK…I have different thoughts. Though I am all for ARR winning GG and Oscars..and he feels he deserves every bit of it….! thanks to all his works all these years. the songs just aren’t that great. . I don’t know about how he has done the rerecording..but the songs…especially Jai Ho…! Hmm…maybe not my type of song I think ! And Jai Ho has been nominated for Oscar !!
