Blogger and reader

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

To my mind, a blog is like a virtual tea kadai/barber shop conversation. The blogger is the guy who reads out the Daily Thandhi loud to stir up a discussion because he is vetti (especially non-commercial personal blogs like mine). A commentor is the person who is the virtual equivalent of someone taking part in tea kadai discussion. There is no compulsion on any party, the blogger can stop reading his Daily Thandhi, the listener can move on to another tea kadai. Anything goes so long as basic decorum is maintained. Nobody is right since nobody is an expert even though some precious insights may just as well emerge despite the air of ignorance.

Okay, so who takes the role of abusive anonymous commenter then? I guess he should be the one whose main job is to pelt stones at political rallies. The same sort of people who do graffiti in train toilets. Worse some even do not close the door properly while rendering their toilet masterpieces.

Math!

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Sorry about introducing the math question in my blog. The fact of the matter is i have around 9000 spam in moderation.
Some brahaspathis i depend to move the ISP are very busy nowadays. So this is a stop gap arrangement till i sort out this issue.
Till then, please remember to do the math before commenting in my blog!

I promise I will remove this ASAP.

..Fade in…

Urgent requirement:
There is an urgent requirement for the post of Prime Minister of India.

Eligibility:
BE/MBA/MSC/MCA/ME/Phd/Any Degree/Any SSLC/Any 8th standard/Any LKG..

Skill sets:
5 years in idhu (not even as close as my onnu vitta sithappa) of which 3 years should be in adhu.
People with exposure to XXX will be preferred (though not required).

The above example is perhaps the only requirement for which i have been spared by HR consultants. At least till now. Sigh!

But puleez i am not making up when i say i get the most irrelevant kind of emails for job openings. I mean, what do they get? What do they hope to achieve with this mails? If they feel good about what they write and expect somebody to read, then its high time they start a blog. But why spam?

..Fade in…

Once upon a time, there lived one blogger who had lotsa vetti time at work and access to blogspot. All was fun till he decided to move to a separate domain. His friend sponsored the domain and he had is own blog URL. Wow, what an achievement! Little did he know the perils lurking in the vicinity.

Then, one fateful day he wrote a post about… NRIs… in not so glowing terms. Thats when it all started. The sea which was till that time roaring, came to a standstill and re-started like the way it does in K Balachander movie. In short, all hell broke lose.

The blogger who till that time was mainly writing for just fun was suddenly a proud recipient of glorious mails.. Mails not just from commenters or bloggers but of a different kind. None of his readers would know about his unique privilege… Everyday, the blogger sees atleast 50 mails like this…

I just want to know one thing.
What’s the business model of spammers? Why do they spam? Whats their mission in life?
Are they just human beings like you and me? Or extra terrestrials? They know that i have a spam filter. I have comment moderation. Which means no comment eludes me unless i am doubly careless.

I just wish someone organizes a spammer’s conference just to understand who they are and why they do what they do..

Evolution of a blog

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

The last few days i was essentially revisiting my older posts (2006 and earlier). I dont know exactly how to convey what i feel honestly.

I cannot believe I’ve written on topics like NRIs, Hinduism, Health Insurance, IT, not to mention short stories, story series etc. I myself forgot about a lot of my own posts.
I am not much of a nostalgia person but it was fun nevertheless. Where have all the energy gone? Can i write with the same fever and passion again? I am not sure. Maybe I should start drinking Boost and see :)

Its also interesting to note how my thought processes and desires have evolved from those days to the present day fascination for authors like Seth Godin, Tom Peters, ideas, how to start my own thing, look up for higher education and job opportunities abroad and the likes.

I intend to just record my thoughts on various things more frequently in 2008. My readers may or may not find it interesting but it sure makes for interesting reading for myself later on :)

I would suggest the same to fellow bloggers as well. If you have time, look back on your older posts, you will be surprised:)
